NIDA has officially launched Digital ID activities in the Southern Province, beginning with Nyanza, Huye, and Gisagara districts.
This marks a significant milestone in the nationwide rollout of Rwanda’s new digital identification system, designed to enhance service delivery, data security, and convenience for all Rwandans.
The Digital ID system will enable citizens to securely access both public and private services using a single, trusted form of identification. In these districts, residents have already begun the pre-enrollment and enrollment processes, which include biometric data capture such as ten fingerprints, facial recognition, and iris scans—key steps in transitioning to the new electronic ID (e-ID).
Local authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the project and ensuring that no citizen is left behind. NIDA field teams are working hand in hand with district administrations to facilitate enrollment and raise public awareness on the importance and benefits of the Digital ID initiative.
