Why CRVS is important?

CRVS as defined by UN, it is the continuous, permanent, compulsory, and universal recording of the occurrence and characteristics of vital events (live births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and divorces) and other civil status events pertaining to the population as provided by decree, law or regulation, in accordance with the legal requirements in each country.”

In our context, this one is very important as it provides valuable information that can be used for designing, implementing, and evaluating various services, ranging from health, social and protection services, to research and more.

It gives an identity to each individual, nationality and can therefore benefit from the rights that are associated with the given identity, such as access to education, health domain, etc.

CRVS is not only important for individuals, but it is also just as important for the government. It allows collecting real statistics for program planning such as insurance, transport, economy, etc.

Briefly, the CRVS allows citizens to get benefits including services they are entitled to.
